Starting the new school year at Fairmount Elementary just doesn’t seem possible without the annual Back to School Bash. This year the event was held on Aug. 19, and drew a crowd of about 400 people from the Fairmount community, including former families and students.

Fairmount principal Dr. Sue Sharp said she was overjoyed about the success of this year’s event. “This was the best Back to School Bash,” said Sharp. “We had a taco truck and an Italian ice truck. The fire department came and so did our DARE officer Steve Weiss. Everyone had a fabulous time!”

Sharp said one of the highlights of this year’s Back to School Bash was “Pie-ing the Principal,” when Sharp and other staff members volunteered to be the target of whip cream pies. The purpose of this fun activity was to raise money for the Jordie Hines memorial playground. Hines was a student at Fairmount who tragically passed away over the summer. To honor his memory, Fairmount plans to build a new playground or a brick walkway.

Not only was this year’s Back to School Bash a great celebration for every student and family member, but also a special way to support a cause that is dear to the hearts of everyone at Fairmount.
