On Friday, March 10, students, staff, families, and community members gathered on the fields of Fairmount Elementary, to celebrate what would soon become known as “the Greatest Fundraising Event Ever!” The Fairmount PTO teamed up with Boosterthon, a company that specializes in fun run events, to create the “Falcon Fun Run” and raise money for technology, new playground equipment, and other expenses for the school.
Friends and family pledged money for every lap, and students ran up to 30 laps. As a result of the new fundraising approach, Fairmount Elementary raised over $25,000! Just as exciting, Principal Dr. Sue Sharp promised that if the school reached their fundraising goal, she would agree to be “slimed” by students… now that’s a picture worth a thousand words!
“This was a record-breaking fundraiser for Fairmount,” said PTO member Darla Kitsmiller. “Bringing in Boosterthon was the best thing we could have done. They brought a level of energy that we would have not been able to bring in ourselves. Last year we tried pledges, but this year, we made the same amount in one day that we collected last year in six weeks.”
Boosterthon promotes character building and fitness in students. The Falcon Fun Run gave students the chance to run, be active, and play a role in contributing to the educational development in their school.
“This was the best fundraiser we’ve ever had,” said Dr. Sharp. “Our goal is to ensure that we have the best resources for our students to contribute to their education. This fundraiser played a significant role toward reaching this goal.”
