Fairmount staff members look through resource information

Our wonderful educators and support staff put a lot of time and effort into supporting our students and District each day. Since these employees give so much of themselves throughout the year, Fairmount Elementary wanted to give back and ensure that our staff members are feeling supported. Fairmount dedicated a recent staff meeting to wellness and self-care by reminding employees of the many resources and benefits that are available to them through FHSD.

Fairmount invited representatives of the FHSD Benefits Department to speak at the meeting. Benefits Manager Erin Murray shared information about the District’s near-site clinic, which provides employees with “lower cost, higher quality medical care without the overhead costs associated with a hospital-based medical practice.” Fairmount music teacher Matt Miller expressed his appreciation for the newly opened clinic. “Just the ease and the personal touch of being able to go in there, have everything done, and not have to wait for anything was just really nice.”

Lisa Paschke speaks to Fairmount staff about PASAlong with details about the clinic, staff members also heard from Personal Assistance Services (PAS) representative Lisa Paschke who discussed the various PAS resources and counseling services available to staff members, including financial, lifestyle and wellness, legal, and more.  Kindergarten teacher Kerry Trask appreciated the wealth of information shared at the meeting. “It really helped us to see what’s available. I receive these pamphlets all the time, so just to know more about the entire program and the things that are offered is extremely helpful.”

They participated in meditation, munched on some tasty snacks, recognized their staff of the year nominees and winner, and celebrated Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.

“It is so important that we take care of each other,” says Oliver. “Self-care is not selfish. It should be routine professional development.” Miller stressed the importance of self-care, not only for one’s own benefit, but for the students, as well. “If we are not taking care of ourselves, then it is hard for us to take care of our students.”
