Fairmount fifth graders participate in the Fun Run

On Nov. 9, the Fairmount principals made their way up to the gymnasium stage as a line of excited students held cans of whipped cream and bottles of chocolate syrup. The school was celebrating the success of their annual Fun Run by turning their administrative staff into a human ice cream sundae.

With the generous help of families and community businesses, the school ended up raising about $45,000, which will help pay for additional playground equipment. Fourth grader Serenity Harris reflected on the importance of the annual Fun Run. “When you give money to Fun Run it makes your school better.”

Due to inclement weather this year, the activities planned for the day were moved inside. The students still had a blast participating in a variety of exercises as they jumped and danced their way through various levels. Fifth grader Keegan Shaw shared how his favorite exercise was the star power. “I like to do squats. You would go down and jump up and be a star!” Other students enjoyed the push-ups, the fire kicks, and the boxing exercises.

Overall, the cold day in November turned out to be a huge heart-warming success and ended with a chilly treat for the students. To watch the students decorate their principals with delicious toppings, head over to the Fairmount Facebook page.
